Bio

Amber O’Harrow moved to Iowa after working as an artist in the UK and France for almost two decades.  She received her BFA in Textile Design and Fiber Art from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1991, where she began her exploration into natural forms and new weaving techniques.  In 2010, she received her MA and MFA from the University of Iowa in Metal Arts, 3-D Design, and Sculpture, where she developed new ways of integrating materials and processes to form her art. Amber O’Harrow’s art has been exhibited in shows across the US and Europe and has work in a variety of permanent collections from the Grassi Museum for Applied Arts in Leizig, Germany, to the Coralville Performing Arts Center in Iowa, USA.  She works in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, placing a strong emphasis on textile structures and natural forms. She considers herself an integrated medium artist, working in many techniques and materials in order to express her work in a clearer and more intuitive way.

Contributions to the Field (technical and/or conceptual):

Pioneer of Integrated Method Art, combining and working in many different disciplines, techniques and Materials, in order to make a more direct and intuitive expression.  For this purpose, traditional divisions of disciplines and use of techniques and materials are erased.  Regardless of the technique or material chosen, the overall concept of the work is to allow the style and visual expression of the artist to be dominant.
